Volendam is one of the easiest day trips from Amsterdam.
Originally, I planned to join a tour.
But I ended up missing it.
Got a refund, then decided to just go on my own.
Getting There
From Amsterdam Centraal:
Train
Then bus
The trip wasn’t long.
Simple transfer, no stress.
DIY was actually easier than I expected.
What I Did
No fixed plan.
Just walked.
Harbor area
Small streets
Shops
It’s the kind of place where you don’t need an itinerary.
I stopped for coffee.
Sat for a bit.
Watched people pass by.
Then continued walking.
How It Felt
Volendam was nice.
Clean, quiet in some parts, but also had a good number of people around.
It didn’t feel empty.
Just steady.
Time Spent
A few hours was enough.
You don’t need a full day here.
Half-day works perfectly.
Honest Take
It’s a good side trip.
But compared to Zaanse Schans, I enjoyed Zaanse more.
Mas memorable.
Volendam felt more like a short stop than a highlight.
Still worth seeing once.
Just don’t expect too much.
