There was a time when silence felt uncomfortable. Yung tipong kailangan may background noise. TV kahit hindi mo pinapanood. Music kahit hindi mo pinapakinggan. Just to fill the space.
Parang silence meant something was missing.
Especially when you live alone. Pag uwi mo, walang sound. Walang conversation. Just the door closing, your footsteps, then nothing.
At first, ang weird niya.
You reach for your phone automatically. Scroll. Check messages. Kahit wala naman talaga hinihintay. You just don’t want to feel that quiet.
But over time, nasanay ka.
Silence stopped feeling empty. It started feeling peaceful.
You realize hindi pala lahat ng quiet moments kailangan punuin. Some moments are meant to stay quiet. Sitting with coffee without checking your phone. Lying down without distraction. Just existing.
Before, I thought being alone too much would make me feel lonely.
But loneliness and silence are not the same.
You can be surrounded by people and still feel alone. And you can be completely alone and feel calm.
Silence gives you space to hear your own thoughts clearly. Walang interference. Walang outside noise telling you what to feel or think.
At first, that can be uncomfortable. Because you hear everything. Your doubts. Your questions. Your realizations.
But eventually, you stop fighting it.
You listen instead.
Silence also teaches you emotional independence. You stop relying on constant distraction just to feel okay. You learn how to regulate yourself. How to calm yourself down. How to sit with discomfort without escaping it immediately.
That’s something nobody teaches you directly.
It just happens.
Now, silence feels normal. Even necessary. After busy days. After conversations. After noise. Silence becomes a way to reset.
Not loneliness.
Just peace.
