Osaka Travel Guide for First-Time Visitors

Osaka was my first stop in Japan—and honestly, I didn’t expect to like it this much.

It’s lively, easy to navigate, and everything feels accessible.

Good mix of food, shopping, and just walking around.

Where I Stayed

I stayed in Osaka at the start and end of my trip.

Didn’t overthink location—because once you understand the train system, getting around is easy.

Getting Around

Trains are everything here.

Very organized, on time, and easy to follow once you get used to it.

No need for taxis.

What to Do

Dotonbori
This is the main area you’ll probably go to first.

Bright lights, food, people—it feels alive, especially at night.

Shinsaibashi
Shopping area connected to Dotonbori.

Easy to spend hours here without realizing.

Osaka Castle
More relaxed compared to the busy streets.

Good contrast from the city energy.

Day Trips (Kyoto + Nara)
I did this through Klook.

Easy and convenient, especially if you don’t want to plan everything yourself.

Food

Osaka is known for food—and it shows.

A lot of options everywhere. Even random places are good.

No need to chase specific restaurants all the time.

Shopping

This is where things escalated for me 😅

I went from 2 luggage to 5.

Osaka is dangerous if you like shopping.

A lot of good finds, and it’s hard to stop.

Overall

Osaka is easy to like.

Not overwhelming, not complicated.

Good balance of everything—food, shopping, and places to explore.
