Traveling between cities in Japan was one of the easiest parts of the trip.
I moved between Osaka and Sapporo, and everything was smooth.
Main Options
For long distances, you’ll usually choose between:
- flights
- trains (like the Shinkansen)
In my case, I experienced both.
Trains (Shinkansen)
Best for cities that are connected by rail like Osaka, Kyoto, and nearby areas.
Pros:
- fast
- very organized
- no airport process
Cons:
- can be expensive depending on distance
Flights
For longer routes like Osaka to Sapporo, flying makes more sense.
It saves time compared to train routes that would take much longer.
Within Cities
Inside cities like Osaka, trains are enough.
Everything is connected well. Once you understand the lines, it becomes very easy to move around.
My Experience
What stood out the most was how reliable everything is.
No delays, no confusion, no stress.
Even when plans changed—like when my return flight got cancelled—I still managed to adjust because the system is easy to work with.
Overall
Transportation in Japan is something you don’t have to worry about.
Once you understand it, everything just works.
