Before going to Paris, I kept seeing the same thing online.
“Be careful.”
“Watch out for scams.”
“Don’t trust anyone.”
So naturally, I expected the worst.
I thought I’d constantly be on guard the whole time.
What I Expected
From what I saw online, I was expecting:
- pickpockets
- random people approaching
- situations that feel unsafe
So when I arrived, I stayed alert.
I was paying attention to my surroundings, my things, everything.
What Actually Happened
Nothing.
No incidents. No uncomfortable situations.
No one approached me in a weird way.
No moments where I felt like something was off.
Staying Alert vs Being Relaxed
At the start, I was very aware.
But as the days went by, I naturally relaxed.
Not because I ignored the possibility—but because nothing was happening.
Everything felt normal.
What Made Me Feel Safe
I think it was a mix of:
- being aware
- not putting myself in risky situations
- and honestly, just how the trip went
I didn’t do anything extreme. Just moved around like a normal traveler.
And it worked.
My Take
Are scams possible? Probably, yes.
But in my experience, it wasn’t something that affected my trip at all.
It didn’t ruin anything. It didn’t even show up.
Overall
Paris didn’t feel scary.
It felt like a normal city.
As long as you stay aware, you’ll be fine.
At least, that’s how it was for me.
