2 Days in Kyoto Itinerary

This is a complete 2-day Kyoto itinerary covering the usual must-visit spots.

Even if I did this as a day trip, this is the ideal way to experience Kyoto without rushing everything into one day.

Day 1 – Fushimi Inari + Higashiyama

Start early at Fushimi Inari Shrine.

This is important. The earlier you go, the fewer people.

Walk through the torii gates and go as far as you want. You don’t need to complete the full hike.

After that, head to Higashiyama.

Visit:

  • Kiyomizu-dera
  • Sannenzaka & Ninenzaka streets
  • Yasaka Shrine

This area is very walkable and gives you that classic Kyoto feel.

You can also stop at cafés along the way.

End the day around Gion. If you’re lucky, you might spot a geisha, but don’t expect it.

Day 2 – Arashiyama + Kinkaku-ji

Start early again, this time in Arashiyama.

Go to:

  • Bamboo Grove
  • Togetsukyo Bridge
  • nearby streets and shops

If you have time, you can also visit the monkey park.

After Arashiyama, head to Kinkaku-ji.

It’s a bit out of the way, but manageable by bus or taxi.

This temple is more structured—you follow a set path—but it’s one of the most iconic spots in Kyoto.
