The First Snow I Ever Saw in Sapporo

Seeing snow for the first time doesn’t feel real at first.

You’ve seen it in photos, movies, videos. But when you actually step into it, everything feels different.

That moment happened when I arrived in Sapporo.

As soon as I stepped outside, I noticed how quiet everything felt. Snow covered the ground, the sidewalks, the rooftops. Even the usual city sounds felt softer.

I remember just standing there for a few seconds.

Cold air hitting my face. Breath visible. Snow slowly falling.

It didn’t feel dramatic.

It felt calm.

Walking through the streets felt new. Every step made a slight crunch on the snow. Cars moved slower. People walked carefully.

It forces you to slow down.

At one point, I just looked around and thought, “So ganito pala.”

Not in a big emotional way.

Just quiet realization.

Snow changes the atmosphere of a place. It makes everything look softer, slower, and more still.

Sapporo felt different because of that.

And for a first time experience, it didn’t need to be anything more.

Just being there was enough.
