The Calm of Amsterdam’s Side Streets

Amsterdam can feel busy at first.

Tourists, bikes, trams — everything moving at the same time.

But once you step away from the main areas, it changes.

I was walking near Centraal.

Late afternoon.

No specific destination.

Just exploring.

Then the streets opened up.

Same houses.

Same canals.

But fewer people.

Bikes passing by.

People walking without rushing.

Everything still moving, but not overwhelming.

It felt like controlled chaos.

Yung may movement, but hindi stressful.

Instead, it actually felt calming.

You notice more in those streets.

Details of the houses.

The rhythm of people.

The sound of bikes instead of noise.

That’s where Amsterdam made more sense to me.

Not in the crowded spots.

But in the spaces just outside of them.
